I agree with that. Once my daughter “graduated” from picture books, she had a tough time finding things that she wanted to read. The first graphic novel she checked out from the school library was one I had to buy and replace a few times because of the tattered pages from reading and re-reading. I have purchased the entire series (first book was “Smile”), and tons of others for her over the years. Every single one ends up tattered and I couldn’t be happier that she’s a reader.

Smile was one of the first books my daughter got into, also. It does make sense as kids transition. I need to do more research and I'll share that once I do, but my gut tells me that we might be right about this.
