Sounds like it wasn't even a thought for you. Am I right?

Fast car - I was young when I first heard it and didn’t understand much of the lyrics BUT connected with the story like it was mine

Fast car! It’s a grower! Especially with the new country version with Luke Combs that’s out you realise the everlasting strength of the song, lyrics and message. Like a prayer was a hit for other reasons. The sing was never allowed to speak for itself.

That's an interesting point about Like A Prayer. I wish I was old enough to feel the vibes when it was out. Fast Car is forever, though, and is broad enough to be replicated (love the Luke Combs version). I think Like a Prayer is a Madonna song, meaning no one can really replicate it. But that's kind of what makes it great writing, no?

No one beats Fast Car. I think Like a Prayer with gospel choir is fab! The song cane out amidst the MTV era and it was all videos and visuals and Madonna provoking. Tracy Chapman is lowkey and let the song speak. It needed no frills or glitter! Also in terms if lyrics it tells a whole novel in a song. What’s Like a prayer about? The lyric I cannot remember much of because the video is etched in my mind.
