Kern, I heard a classic one years ago told a fellow writer.
"why are you wasting your time writing? All those long hours of writing will not amount to anything. You will earn less than the hourly pay rate rate of retail workers selling underwear at a Dept Store. You will make more money working as a butcher."
LOL, it is funny when I recall this, considering what happened. But who wants to work as a butcher my friend said
We now realize that writing has more dimensions than just making money.
This professional who said this was let go during the 2008 Financial crisis.
Writers work in a wonderful private space to create something out of nothing. Writers essentially express who they are; values, experiences etc and over time the public appreciate the stories they tell as they develop their writing skills.
As you say, it does take time to enjoy the fruits of your efforts.
However you are lucky you knew what you wanted to do ... many come late to writing, though Age has nothing to do with it, if you have a story that is bursting out of the seams you want to tell.
It is the nature of writers to find ways creatively - that what they do.
Now that you are on a roll, what is your next book ?
