Holy, Kern, this is quite the “backstory” you have!! Anne Lamott said that if we survive our childhood, we have stories to write about our entire lifetime… this is true for me, and I feel it is true for you! So much respect for you as a writer, but mostly as a single father! I’m a single mother (with two teenage girls) so I know how challenging this can get. I will keep cheering you on, because you so deserve it! And you are inspiring! Thank you for all your beautiful posts and writing!

I swear you make me blush every time you write a comment. And I have one daughter. You're dealing with two of them while forging through with your writing so you are the true inspiration. Thank you so much, Imola. Really. It means a lot that you're reading and supporting.

Always Kern! I’m a big believer in writers supporting one another, and it’s really so natural and easy to support you, because your writing is beautiful! And by the way, if you happen to do book signing in Montreal please let me know so I can come and bring friends along. I already have your book (a gift to my daughter) but will be honoured to have you sign it! All the best Kern! Keep being you, and sharing your gifts with the world.

Kern, thank you so much for sharing such a compelling post. I loved the film "Inside Out" for a lot of the reasons you mentioned. I appreciate reading about your journey, and about the relationship you have with your daughter. I have your book "And Then There Was us" and look forward to immersing myself in the story. Thanks again for your dedication to your craft.

No problem, Alexandra. So glad you connected with this piece. I reread it again and forgot how personal it was even though it's a craft piece.

Kern, I love this post—and your story! You may already know of this book, but I recently read it and consider it a worthwhile read for any author: "The Emotional Craft of Fiction," by Donald Maass. Your post aligned well with my takeaways from that book.

Thanks, Michael. I actually don't know about that book but will add it to my reading list for sure. Appreciate the suggestion.
